Summary

In order to recognize and respect the individual characteristics of neurodiversity, understanding and tolerance of each individual must come first. It is structured so that readers can naturally understand why a squirrel with multiple neurodivergent characteristics lived in hiding and what prompted him to open his mind. In addition, the direction of the story was set so that neurodivergent people can have a positive identity about themselves.

This is Squirrel ChiChi, the ‘Siberianchipmunk’, the most affectionate and frequently seen squirrel in Korea. ChiChi, who always wore a mask and appeared from episodes 1 to 9, was introduced in episode 10 as to why she was wearing a mask. The episode where Dodo's affectionate support and restoration of self-esteem lead to taking off the mask that was usually frustrating is played out along with a conflict situation during a group drawing activity in art class. ChiChi, who has autism spectrum disorder, has an excellent visual sense and uses that sense to open a new chapter of learning in her school life.

The basic sequence of episodes is

The neurodiversity is compared with the rainbow spectrum of brain development. It is correlated to the actual characteristics of a squirrel, <The Squirrels> releases through 10 episodes that people with neurodiversity are the same people as neurotypical people. The episodes are in Korean, English, and French, and was produced in a simple and intuitive format to facilitate easy understanding by people of all ages and genders around the world.

<The Squirrels> cartoon episodes imply neurodivergent kids having a school life, explaining 'the diversity' in one species, the squirrel, to show the message of inclusion and acceptance. The contents shows duplicated disabilities in real life, and it is not regarded as a threshold to overcome. The Ten different squirrels have their own characteristics including neurodivergent traits and these are linked to the squirrels' traits, thus, a squirrels' universe is created.
