Description

This book is a collection of stories featuring a fictitious character named Jang Man-ho, an officer assigned to Jeolla Jwasuyeong (the Naval Base of the Left Jeolla Province) around the time of the Imjin War. It has used imagination to fill in the blanks in history and create stories behind the legendary victory of Admiral Lee Sunshin, who won each and every one of the 23 battles he was engaged in—a feat the world had never seen before.
The title piece, “Iron Spikes,” is a work of fiction about how Lee Sunshin managed to eradicate the lax discipline and widespread corruption in the military in the space of just one year, and had then gone further to strengthen the capabilities of the entire naval base. This imagination centers on the assumption that the secret must have been “communication,” one of the major keywords of present times. The basic logic of this story is that Lee Sunshin did not just put the soldiers through harsh training but focused on building strong faith between officers and soldiers through enhanced communication, which in turn led to his numerous sweeping victories.
Jang Man-ho, the protagonist, fights in battles against the Japanese on the outside and covertly strives on the inside to find Japanese spies hiding behind many incidents. The thrilling stories based on the mystery behind history are about to unfold before our eyes!
