Summary
Set in 195X America, the story begins when a man is found murdered at an apartment on Sunset 19th Street. Leon, the victim’s lover, is named the prime suspect. Desperate to prove his innocence, Leon seeks out Benjamin, a fallen private detective, and offers him a deal: if Benjamin clears his name, Leon will reveal the truth behind the case that destroyed Benjamin’s past.
Their investigation begins on fragile trust. As suspicion and attraction intertwine, the bond between Benjamin and Leon deepens, leading Benjamin closer to the truth behind a vast conspiracy that has even manipulated his own past. In the face of danger, the two save each other, uncover the truth, and become lovers as well as partners.
Later, Benjamin’s former lover, Eleanor, comes to him with a new case involving the theft of the “Golden Heart,” an artifact housed in a museum. A subtle tension forms between the three as legends of an ancient city, a string of murders, and the secret of people with “golden eyes” begin to converge. What first appears to be a simple theft soon grows into something far more sinister, and Benjamin once again chooses to protect Leon. After the case, the two finally share the words they had been unable to say, reaffirming the depth of their relationship.
Then, in the early summer of a more peaceful time, a man appears with a new request: to find the biological father of his daughter. But the child bears an uncanny resemblance to Leon. As Leon’s long-sealed past, his family, and even the mafia begin to surface, a new case quietly opens.
