Summary

Black Cats with a Cute and Positive Image

For a long time, black cats have unjustly suffered the misconception of being "ominous" or "witches' familiars," enduring the most severe abuse. Their plight continues even today, as they are still among the least adopted animals in shelters.

"Blackcat NARU" is precisely one such black cat. The character NARU was created to demonstrate that black cats can be just as cute and lovable as any other cat.

NARU aims to resolve the prejudices against black cats, which have been tabooed by the public, by transforming them into an adorable character, thereby fostering a positive image. Through this, it is hoped that misconceptions about black cats will be dispelled, and that it will contribute, however small, to solving the problem of abandoned animals.

Aside from a brief period of worship in ancient Egypt, cats, throughout history, have largely faced adversity. Among them, black cats have carried a particularly negative image. However, NARU is a character designed to change this perception, giving black cats a cute, positive, and bright image, so that they can be loved and live happily as companion animals with humans.

Blackcat NARU began as a webtoon in 2015. The first volume of the comic book series, "Blackcat NARU - Cat Heaven," was published in 2018, followed by the second volume in 2019. Last year, in October 2024, a webtoon featuring Naru, offering common knowledge about cats, was also published as a comic book titled "Cat Common Sense Learned Through Comics."
