Part-time teacher Gyeongwu begins his new life at a newly established middle school in Wonju. He meets Hana, who lives in his building, and witnesses her unstable life. He is both sympathetic and curious as he observes her precarious marriage to Yongho, his fellow teacher at the middle school. One day, Hana has had enough of Yongho’s violent behavior and leaves him to start afresh, but she is forced to return not long after. On the night she returns, Gyeongwu can’t sleep due to the sounds of intense arguing coming from the unit above. Eventually, his concern gets the better of him and he goes upstairs, but the place is empty. The only thing he sees are blood splatters all over the floor. Meanwhile, Hana is driving away, gripping the steering wheel and looking dazed. Gyeongwu meets Hana again in court as she is being tried for aggravated assault against Yongho, who is now in a coma. Gyeongwu decides to testify as a witness, and Hana is released from custody on probation with his help. When she resumes her life, Gyeongwu remains by her side.
What liberates us from unhappiness? Follow Hana as she finally embarks on a journey to find herself and learns how to stand on her own after a life of hateful resentment and dependence.
