Summary
In 1866, as the French fleet withdraws from Joseon after looting the royal Oegyujanggak archive, it hides a cursed book of prophecy — the Dochamnok — on Goesangmoe, a haunted mountain outside Kaesong. Beneath its slopes lie the ruins of Manwoldae, the lost imperial palace of Goryeo, guarded by the spirits of a dynasty massacred centuries before.
Jeon Do-ji, a young merchant who has just lost his trading ship to a French warship, climbs the mountain to recover the book and restore his name. Waiting for him are a Joseon officer hunting the same prize, a merchant matriarch bound by a Qing sorceress's curse, and the mountain's long-vanished master. There Do-ji learns he descends from the slaughtered royal line — and that his father's jade ring and his inherited martial art are the proof.
