Summary

Nia, Peter, and Bunyoung were all adopted from Korea and as adults searching for their roots, they uncover a devastating truth: their adoption documents were systematically falsified. Fabricated birth dates, altered genders, forged medical records. What they discover is not individual error, but a state-sponsored system of child trafficking. Rather than surrender to despair, they unite. Forming the Danish Korean Rights Group during the COVID-19 pandemic, they file a petition with Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission the first time the Korean government officially acknowledges and investigates overseas adoption abuses spanning 75 years and over 200,000 children. Their journey from personal trauma to international solidarity culminates in a landmark ruling: 56 confirmed cases of human rights violations. Now, adoptees and their children are stepping forward together writing a new chapter in the pursuit of truth and reconciliation.
