Summary
Based on true story.
In the secret sector of the Korean Primate Research Center, induced pluripotent stem cells(IPS) are injected into monkeys to find cures for human diseases, ways to prolong life and prevent aging. Unethically, monkeys are subjected to experiments including human gene injections to the heart so that later the heart could be transplanted into a human. As a result of such experiments to a pregnant female primate, it gave birth to a disabled baby monket. It can’t speak but is highly intelligent.
Like some humans, this baby monkey is born with short limbs. Found close to death in the secret sector of the research facility, this poor little creature was handed over to professor Myungho who named him Taeyang. With much care and heart warming acceptance from Myungho’s daughter Seohyun, Taeyang slowly lost his fear and opened up, likewise accepting his new family over time. They ate, took bath and slept together, just like a real family.
It is a story of compassion towards a world filled with prejudice and dislike against disability, especially in a ‘me’ oriented society. Taeyang is not just a poor disabled monkey but a precious gift who truly conveys the meaning of "family" and what it means to live harmoniously together. With Taeyang’s pure soul and practice of unconditional love, we want to deeply move the audience and share a story that goes beyond that of an ordinary family; one family with true understanding of what love, compassion, acceptance, respect and dignity really means.
