Summary

This project is an environmental fantasy animation inspired by the whale carvings of the Bangudae Petroglyphs in Ulsan, Korea.

The story follows Bandungi, a young whale who inherits the memory of the ocean. After losing its parents, Bandungi embarks on a journey of growth, overcoming grief to become a guardian of the sea. Through this journey, the story delivers messages of family love, longing, and the coexistence of nature and humanity.

With emotionally engaging characters and visually rich underwater ecosystems, the animation is designed to resonate with audiences of all ages—from children to adults. By incorporating the Bangudae Petroglyphs, a significant Korean cultural heritage, as a core motif, the project aims to develop a unique and globally appealing animation rooted in Korean storytelling.

Long ago, there were whales in the ocean that carried and protected the memories of the sea.

Bandungi, a young whale, once lived peacefully with its parents, Minky and Balpi. However, one day, they are lost due to human whaling, leaving Bandungi alone in the vast ocean.

At first, Bandungi waits—days turn into months, and months into years—as it searches endlessly for its parents. But eventually, it is forced to face the painful reality that they will never return.

Despite the sorrow, Bandungi continues its journey, forming bonds with ocean companions and confronting threats that endanger the sea. Through these experiences, Bandungi begins to understand its purpose.

After a long and lonely wait, Bandungi arrives at the Bangudae Petroglyphs. There, it sheds tears of longing for its parents, and those tears transform into light, seeping into the ancient carvings.

Bandungi’s memories, love, and waiting become part of the legend—forever engraved in the Bangudae Petroglyphs.
