K-pop fandom is now the entry point through which overseas consumers meet other Korean products. This report uses CJ Olive Young's first US beauty festa and CJ CheilJedang's Bibigo booth at KCON LA 2026 to show how a concert weekend works as a retail channel for K-beauty and K-food.
KCON LA 2026: A Concert Weekend That Works as a Retail Channel
KCON LA 2026 paired its concerts with a beauty festa and a food booth, giving K-pop fans direct exposure to Korean beauty and food brands
Key Issues
Fourteen years, 39 editions: KCON started in Irvine, California, in 2012 with about 10,000 visitors and has drawn 2.35 million cumulative offline attendees through last year. This 39th edition featured 36 artist teams.
Two venues across one weekend: The festival ground at the Los Angeles Convention Center held a 5,800-seat artist stage, a dance stage and the K-STORY ZONE, while 'M Countdown' ran at Crypto.com Arena across the street. Every ticket tier sold out.
Olive Young's first festa in the US: CJ Olive Young ran 'Olive Young Festa LA 2026' alongside KCON for three days, its first in the United States after Japan in May, drawing 100,000 visitors to about 4,700 square meters with 55 brands.
Seoul shopping streets on the floor: The venue was organized around four Seoul districts: indie skincare in Seongsu, professional solutions in Gangnam, makeup and DIY in Hongdae, and wellness in Myeong-dong, with an Olive Young store at the center.
Diagnostic services drew the longest lines: The 'My Color Vibe' personal color zone kept drew long lines throughout the event, and a Skin Scan service for beauty box buyers analyzed skin condition and handed over a solution kit.
Bibigo turned tasting into a game: CJ CheilJedang's 'K-Flavor Arcade' booth ran from August 14 to 16, where visitors played a motion game for each of four flavors, then tasted Bibigo Mini Wontons and Spicy Kimchi Ramen.
Fandom used as a distribution channel: More than 10,000 people visited the booth and samples ran out early. A themed zone used the IP of brand ambassador group Alpha Drive One.
A direct channel for Korean SMEs: Forty small and mid-sized Korean companies took part through the 'K-Collection', and CJ ENM says 1,167 such companies have been introduced to overseas consumers through KCON since 2014.
