Minister Yu In-chon of Culture, Sports and Tourism has introduced a ₩600 billion strategic fund led by the private sector to promote Korean content worldwide. This initiative is part of a larger plan, providing ₩1.74 trillion in policy financing to enhance every stage of content creation, distribution, and global expansion. The move is designed to reinforce the international presence and appeal of Korea's creative industries.
This funding endeavor supports various sectors within Korea's content industry, such as gaming, film, comics, and webtoons. The ministry is committed to tailoring support strategies for each genre while revising completion guarantee systems. These efforts aim to aid companies through planning, development, and exporting phases, with Minister Yu highlighting the significant role of K-content in driving Korea's economic growth.
Looking forward, the ministry intends to increase its overseas content business centers to 25 by 2024 and host a comprehensive Korean Wave expo. In partnership with the tourism sector, the ministry is set to welcome 20 million tourists by orchestrating major events during the "Visit Korea Year 2024." Furthermore, to sustain the innovation and distribution of K-content in the global market, the ministry will collaborate with industry and academia to establish AI copyright guidelines.
