On May 11, the first day of the revised Copyright Act, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued emergency blocking orders against 34 copyright-infringing websites, including Newtoki. The new framework enables authorities to respond more rapidly when infringement is clear, urgent action is required to prevent serious harm, and no effective alternative measures are available.
Emergency blocking is a provisional measure subject to review by the Copyright Protection Deliberation Committee within five days. The government also plans to continuously monitor replacement domains and mirror websites and take swift follow-up action against attempts to resume illegal operations.
