"Hangeul Farm" is a Hangeul character designed to make the Korean alphabet, Hangeul, more approachable and familiar.
The story of Hangeul Farm follows a male and female protagonist as they care for animal friends on a farm, embarking on adventures and building friendships.
The protagonists, "Han" and "Geul," represent Hangeul through their names. The characters' facial features incorporate the basic principles of Hangeul's creation – Cheonjiin (Heaven, Earth, Human) – represented by circles, horizontal lines, and vertical lines, embedding the origin of Hangeul into the characters.
The animal friends, through their expressions of Hangeul onomatopoeia for their sounds, are designed to help intuitively recognize and learn Hangeul. For example, the pet dog "Meong" usually has an expression displaying the Hangeul onomatopoeia "멍" (meong, a common Korean sound for a dazed look), but can express emotions like joy with "왈" (wal, bark) and pain with "깽" (kkaeng, whimper) using different Hangeul onomatopoeia.
Composed of animal characters such as a cow, pig, chicken, dog, and cat, Hangeul Farm aims to make Hangeul more accessible and friendly to everyone, including children, adults, and foreigners.
Hangeul Farm goes beyond just books by incorporating augmented reality technology. This allows for interactive experiences with the characters using devices, sparking interest in Hangeul learning and expanding the Hangeul experience into a new virtual space.
In today's era of heightened interest in the Korean Wave, this project is expected to play a role in making Hangeul more familiar to domestic and international consumers by expressing the formative principles of Hangeul through onomatopoeic designs."
