Description
“Hoi Rang” is a ballet performance by Korea National Ballet (KNB) that is a grand narrative with an artistic twist inspired by an original book called “Ilsayusa” about a female character called Rang who is very devoted to her father.
KNB has recreated the tale about Rang, a woman who disguises herself as a man and joins the army in place of her ill father and distinguishes herself in battles by defeating the traitor of Chosun.
“Hoi Rang” is KNB’s soloist piece and was created by the choreographer Kang Hyo-hyung, a former soloist dancer at the KNB, in which she has tried to develop the story more swiftly and filled the piece with spectacular and dynamic group dances and duet dances in a fast pace.
There is great emotion included in the performance with incredible amount of energy in combat scenes in harmony with western classical music and a classic Korean fold tale.
