Summary
It's an omnibus with a frame narrative where the bookstore owner tells stories to visiting customers. The tales are ghost stories that incorporate elements of traditional culture, such as the Kitchen God, funeral biers, and grim reapers. Finally, the identity and story of the bookstore owner are revealed. He tricked a grim reaper to gain immortality but lost his beloved as punishment for deceiving the gods. Since then, he has been running the bookstore, waiting for his lover's reincarnation, collecting stories to tell her when they meet again.
