Summary

Epitomizing the greatest star in the Korean cartoon industry and one of South Korea's representative cartoonists, KO Woo-Young, '<EuljiMundeok>' is a comic book published by the author in 1974, and was republished in 2015 to commemorate its 10th anniversary.

The imagination of the natural-born storyteller and cartoonist, KO Woo-Young, brought to life the struggling and vibrant people of this land as protagonists, and mesmerized readers with unforgettable and heart-pumping scenes. Go Woo-Young's unique charm, both daring and refined, rough and gentle, is evident in the stories of the righteous Goguryeo warrior wielding the blue stone, the lady who mourns the warrior but becomes an enemy, the young Dolmaro, the teacher nun, and the nameless people who sacrifice themselves for Goguryeo.

* In 612 AD, the Sui Dynasty organized a large army under the command of Emperor Yangdi to launch an attack on Goguryeo. The land army attacked Yeodongseong, a major military stronghold of Goguryeo. On the other hand, they also formed a separate force of 305,000 troops under the command of Yu Zhongwen and Yu Wenshu to attack Pyongyang, the capital of Goguryeo, together with the navy.
When the Sui army's separate force gathered west of the Amnok River, Eulji Mundeok requested a false surrender and infiltrated the enemy lines to directly investigate the Sui army's actual situation. He realized that the Sui army was short on supplies. After returning, he employed the strategy of pretending to flee and pretending to lose every time they clashed with the Sui army, luring them to near Pyongyang and exhausting them to the extreme.
Eulji Mundeok presented false surrender and showed the seal of King Yeongyang of Goguryeo to Emperor Yangdi, creating an excuse for the Sui army to retreat. The Sui army, suffering from food shortages and fatigue, accepted this and decided to retreat. At this point, Eulji Mundeok launched a counterattack, attacking the Sui army from behind as they crossed the river, achieving a crushing victory. The Sui army's separate force suffered a devastating blow, with only 2,700 surviving out of the 305,000 troops, and General Xin Shixiong losing his life. Emperor Yangdi was forced to decide on a total retreat, and this battle became the decisive factor in Goguryeo's victory in the Great Sui–Goguryeo War, known as the ‘Battle of Salsu’.
