The story begins as a fearsome monster swallows every star in the night sky and vanishes. To bring back the star-filled sky, three children — Chorong-i, Norang-i, and Juhong-i — set off on an adventure to rescue the stars the monster has swallowed. The monster is depicted as a composite of several animals' features — a rabbit's ears, a crocodile's teeth, a monkey's tail, and more — and the story makes rich use of Korean mimetic expressions (의태어) so that children can naturally absorb these animal traits as they read. Already adopted for an elementary school textbook, the book is well known among graduates of Korean elementary schools, and its diverse cast of characters gives the content strong potential for further expansion (spin-offs, merchandise, adaptations, etc.
