Shanghai, 1936. At Volcano Academy, a martial arts school in the foreign concession, Korean student Seo Kyung-su carries a shard of Volcano Stone in his chest. Its power makes him stronger, but a red line climbs his neck; once it reaches his face, he dies. He finds Asako again, a Japanese trader’s daughter he can speak to only in Korean.
Capricorn, a mole for the Boss who hunts the stone, reports a walking Volcano Stone at the academy; Kyung-su first uses his power in a rigged freshman battle royale and becomes a target. Asako learns from her father’s files that Kyung-su’s father, Seo Jin-ho, was eliminated and made a specimen. When a railway gun breaches the walls and troops pour in for the stone, the academy stands together, and Asako swallows a shard to protect it.
