Summary

Newly hired social worker Hee-seol finally lands her dream job at a local children’s center. Having spent part of her own childhood in such a center after losing her father and growing up with an emotionally absent mother, she is determined to create a place where children can feel safe and smile freely.

Reality, however, is far more complicated. The children carry wounds of their own, the center director is cold and reserved, and Hee-seol repeatedly faces situations with no clear right answer. As she listens to the children and struggles to protect them, she encounters frustration and helplessness—but also begins to heal and grow herself.

Set in a community children’s center, this warm and vivid novel portrays the realities faced by vulnerable children and the social workers who stand beside them. It is a moving story about how caring for another person’s wounds can help heal our own, and how people can become small but steady lights for one another.
